The Second Wardrobe is a lifestyle brand creating accessories, everyday objects and home pieces from existing textiles.
We work with pre-loved fabrics, leftover materials and textile remnants, reworking them into products designed to be used, worn and lived with.
Our approach is simple: make something worth keeping from what already exists.
Where It Began
The idea for The Second Wardrobe began with a familiar way of looking at things.
Growing up, we saw old clothes and fabrics being reused, repaired and given another purpose instead of simply being thrown away. Later, while studying design at NIFT and researching consumption and textile waste, Deepa began looking more closely at what happens to textiles once they are no longer wanted.
That curiosity eventually became The Second Wardrobe.
What started as an exploration of textile reuse has grown into a brand creating products for everyday wardrobes, homes and lifestyles.

Our products are handcrafted in small batches by women artisans and karigars.
From stitching and embroidery to cutting and finishing, each piece passes through human hands.
We believe that handmade products don't need to look perfectly uniform. The little variations are part of what makes each piece its own.

Deepa Kumar is the founder of The Second Wardrobe, a sustainable lifestyle brand working at the intersection of textile waste, everyday consumption, and functional design.
As an alumnus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar with a Master of Design, her research on women's consumption behaviour among Generation Z in Delhi led her to closely observe the growing disconnect between rapid consumption and material waste, inspiring her commitment to circularity.
Deepa started The Second Wardrobe to explore how discarded materials can be reintroduced into everyday life. Drawing inspiration from the culture of reuse and repair commonly practiced in Indian households, she actively challenges the traditional linear model of the fashion industry. By treating pre-loved garments, vintage remnants, and deadstock textiles as raw materials rather than waste, she breathes new life into discarded textiles through thoughtful and functional designs.
She currently leads the brand's research, sourcing, design development, and storytelling, while collaborating with women-led artisan and production communities to prove that conscious fashion can be elegant, unique, and long-lasting. Under her leadership, The Second Wardrobe has participated in exhibitions and pop-ups, while collaborating with platforms that support sustainability, handmade products, and conscious consumption.
